Go Gourmet Without the Cost or the Calories

The Archer Farms brand available at Target or Amazon.com offers great food at a reasonable price. While it’s usually best to choose fresh foods over packaged foods, Archer Farms is the way to go for side dishes and snacks.
One of my favorite side dishes is couscous and I’ve tried a few brands, but this [...]

Starting a trend with pill boxes

I’m not retired or a hypocondriac, however I’ve recently purchased a 7-day pill box. I thought they were for senior citizens – especially the large ones. But, it’s made my morning so much more convenient! Instead of opening several supplement bottles, I have a helpful reminder of all the vitamins I need [...]

Tips for dining out during summer road trips

Tips for dining out during summer road trips

It can be difficult to make healthy eating choices – plain and simple. Add a variable such as an unplanned restaurant visit and you may be easily swayed to make a poor choice – or worse – completely give up on your healthy eating plan altogether due to frustration.
Like many others, I am planning [...]

1. JOURNAL, JOURNAL, JOURNAL – This is one of the most powerful tools to help you stay on track or get back on track. Your journal can help you see where you are perhaps going over or under on your calorie intake. Use your journal as a detective tool: Had a good week? Look over [...]

My standby summer salad and other BBQ faves

We’re already well into grilling season and I’m trying to get back into my healthy picnic habits as well. With high-fat meats like bratwurst and mayo-laden salads about, I need to be prepared!
When grilling, I like to stick to seafood or chicken kabobs or salmon on a plank. If I really want a brat, [...]

Birthdays - the excuse above all excuses!

I made it through a week of birthday celebrations! This came after two straight weeks of clean eating – after which I felt great!
I usually try to keep celebrations to one day, but my birthday was coupled with a great job offer and my husband’s birthday, so que cera!
I enjoyed myself, but didn’t go [...]

Remotivation from old pals!

On Saturday I went back to the Weight Watchers meeting that I used to lead for two years. I quit in October to focus more on my own weight loss, however I’m still currently 4 pounds above my goal.
I’m SO glad I went to this meeting! Seeing everyone again and sitting in on the meeting [...]

Back to being accountable!

Well, my vacation is over and I had PLENTY of fun. But, it’s time to get back to it!
My husband and I have a big day on July 31 – we are running a 5K in the morning, then going to his 20th high scholl reunion. Talk about motivation to get back on [...]

Another reason not to overeat

Aside from gaining weight or feeling awful after a meal, there are more serious reasons why it’s important to control portions.
Today my grandmother had a 3+ hour surgery for abdominal hernias. If you don’t already know, a hernia happens when an organ can no longer be contained to its designated spot. Basically, after [...]

Accountability & stress don't mix well!

I constantly struggle with stress (mostly work stress) and the impacts to my diet. I really try to deal with stress in positive ways, like exercise or even TV vegging.
Last night I needed to blow off some steam and we went out to dinner. Restaurants are always a struggle! I cannot lie-I [...]

Accountability weekend update...and onto a new day!

To my credit, this is the first weekend in a while that I didn’t have pizza. To my detriment, I did have a real hot dog (no bun!) and my first s’more of the year. Both were delicious and worth it
Overall, I was accountable all weekend. I wasn’t nearly as active as I usually [...]

Luckily, I also got in a great spinning workout, lots of water, and good meals today. I changed up [...]

Accountable again!

I spent much of the day debating whether or not to do a 12K on May 30. I’ve only done a 5K, so I’ve decided against it for now. I have only a month to train as I’ll be on vacation one week upcoming, so que cera. Another time!
I wish I had more [...]

Accountability-A new week!

I managed through another weekend! They weren’t my finest diet moments, but I tracked everything and today I’ve been uber healthy!
Had my usual vitamins & chocolate milk pre-workout. Ran 3 miles this morning and banked 333 calories!
Since then I’ve had small meals: yogurt, raw veggies, tomato soup, FF cottage cheese, apple, string cheese. [...]
